SEND
Our school SENDCo is Miss Gosling. You can contact her by emailing senco@wroughtonacademies.org.uk
At Wroughton, we endeavour to create an inclusive, supportive and aspirational learning environment that is responsive to the diversity of children’s backgrounds, interests, experience, knowledge and skills. We are committed to working together with all members of the school community. We enjoy sharing and celebrating the achievements everybody and believe in participation for all!
At different times in their school career, a child or young person may have a special educational need. The Code of Practice defines SEND as:
A child or young person has SEND if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if they:
- have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age: or
- have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or mainstream post-16 institutions.
If a child is identified as having SEND, we will provide provision that is ‘additional to or different from’ the normal differentiated curriculum, intended to overcome the barrier to their learning.
We work in collaboration with parents, children, teachers, support staff and the school SENDCo to gather views, identify barriers to learning and put in place the appropriate support for the learner. For some leaners, we may want to seek advice from specialist teams and services to provide support, intervention and expertise. Examples of the various specialist teams include, but are not limited to:
- Educational Psychologists
- Specialist/Learning Advisory Teachers
- Speech and Language Therapists
- Occupational Health Therapists
- ‘School 2 School’ advice from special schools
- Support from Specialist Resource Bases (SRBs)
