Our Library
At Wroughton Academies, our purpose-built central library stands as a cornerstone of our commitment to fostering a love of reading and supporting learning across all curriculum areas. This vibrant space houses thousands of books catering to children of all ages, ensuring that every student can find materials that spark their curiosity and imagination.
Our library is intricately woven into the fabric of our curriculum, serving as a vital resource for subjects ranging from English and Science to History and Geography. It plays a crucial role in supporting our CUSP Curriculum, which emphasizes vocabulary acquisition and retention. The diverse collection of texts available in our library helps reinforce the rich diet of language that is deliberately planned for in our lessons.
To nurture a lifelong love of reading, we ensure that all children are issued with a reading book to support their reading development. This practice not only aids in improving literacy skills but also encourages independent reading and exploration of various genres and topics.
The library's collection is carefully curated to reflect the diversity of our world and our community. From classic literature to contemporary works, from non-fiction resources to multicultural stories, our shelves offer a wide array of texts that cater to different interests, reading levels, and cultural backgrounds. This diversity in our collection helps broaden our students' perspectives and fosters empathy and understanding.
Regular library visits are incorporated into our school routine, with designated days for each class. These visits allow students to engage with books, participate in reading activities, and receive guidance from our knowledgeable library staff. The library also supports our reading schemes and initiatives, providing additional resources for programs like phonics and guided reading.
Beyond being a repository of books, our library serves as a hub for reading-related events and activities. Additionally, it hosts activities such as book clubs, reading challenges, and author visits, all aimed at enhancing literacy skills and sparking students' imaginations. The library is supervised at lunchtime by a teaching assistant and our Year 5 and 6 librarians.
By integrating our library so deeply into our academic and extracurricular life, we at Wroughton Academies aim to create an environment where reading is not just a skill to be learned, but a passion to be cultivated. Our library stands as a testament to our belief that a love of reading is fundamental to academic success and personal growth.
