Assessment and Reporting

At Wroughton Academies, we believe in a comprehensive and balanced approach to assessment that supports our pupils' learning journey from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) through to Key Stage 2 (KS2). Our assessment methods are designed to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and celebrate achievements.

Formative Assessment

Formative assessment is an ongoing process that helps us understand and support your child's day-to-day learning:

  • Regular observations and interactions with pupils
  • Feedback on classwork and homework
  • Questioning during lessons
  • Self and peer assessment activities
  • Learning journals and portfolios

This continuous assessment allows our teachers to tailor instruction to meet individual needs and ensure every child is making progress.

Summative Assessment

We use summative assessments at key points throughout the year to measure overall progress:

EYFS:

  • Ongoing observations and assessments against Early Learning Goals
  • Reception Baseline Assessment at the start of Reception year

KS1:

  • Phonics Screening Check in Year 1
  • End of KS1 assessments in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics in Year 2

KS2:

  • End of year assessments in Years 3, 4, and 5
  • KS2 SATs in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling in Year 6

External Assessments

We participate in national assessments to benchmark our pupils' progress:

  • Early Learning Goals assessment at the end of Reception
  • Phonics Screening Check in Year 1 (and Year 2 for those who did not meet the standard in Year 1)
  • KS2 SATs in Year 6

These external metrics provide valuable information about our pupils' attainment compared to national standards.

Our Approach to Assessment

At Wroughton Academies, we strive for a balanced and effective approach to assessment:

  • Consistent methods across all subjects to track progress effectively
  • Regular review of assessment data to identify and address gaps in knowledge
  • Tailored support for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
  • Clear communication with parents about their child's progress
  • Use of assessment information to inform teaching and curriculum planning

We believe that this comprehensive approach enables us to support every pupil in reaching their full potential.

Communicating Progress

We keep parents informed about their child's progress through:

  • Parent-teacher conferences
  • Regular progress reports
  • End-of-year written reports
  • Opportunities to view your child's work and discuss their learning

If you have any questions about our assessment approach or your child's progress, please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher or email us at enquiries@wroughtonacademies.org.uk.

At Wroughton Academies, we are committed to providing a nurturing environment where every child can thrive academically and personally. Our assessment practices are designed to support this goal and ensure that each pupil receives the guidance and support they need to succeed.
