SEND Cafe Event
SEND Café: Supporting Young Carers
On Wednesday, November 13th at 8:50 AM, Wroughton Academies will host a SEND Café aimed at supporting young carers within our community. This event will bring together young carers, their families, and representatives from the School and Community Team to foster understanding and provide essential resources.
What is the SEND Café?
The SEND Café is a welcoming space designed for parents, guardians, and young people to discuss Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This particular session will focus on the unique challenges faced by young carers—those who provide care for family members due to illness, disability, or other needs.
Why Attend?
- Support Network: Young carers often face emotional and practical challenges that can impact their education and well-being. This café provides an opportunity to connect with others in similar situations.
- Expert Guidance: The School and Community Team will be present to offer advice and resources tailored to the needs of young carers.
- Open Dialogue: Attendees can share experiences, ask questions, and learn about available support services.
Understanding Young Carers
Recent studies indicate that a significant number of students in schools are young carers. For instance, it is estimated that around 10% of young people in the UK have caring responsibilities, which can lead to increased absenteeism from school—averaging about 23 missed days per year compared to their peers
Young carers often juggle multiple responsibilities, including household chores and emotional support for family members, which can lead to stress and anxiety about their academic performance
The SEND Café aims to address these issues by providing a supportive environment where young carers can feel understood and valued.
Join Us
We encourage all families with young carers to attend the SEND Café on November 13th. Together, we can create a supportive community that recognises the vital role of young carers and works towards ensuring they have access to the resources they need for both their educational and personal development.
