History

At Wroughton Academies, we follow the ‘CUSP’ Curriculum for History, as well as Science, Geography, Art & Design and Design & Technology.

CUSP is underpinned by evidence, research and cognitive science. Modules are deliberately sequenced for robust progression and allows teachers to focus on the lesson.

There is an emphasis on oracy and vocabulary acquisition. The children will not only develop topic specific knowledge, but they will begin to build a core bank of key terms that will transcend the various epochs of world history we study throughout the school.

Specific skills are discreetly taught and practised so that they become transferrable. The children will also develop the skills to analyse the facts they learn by thinking critically about the authenticity and reliability of the historical sources that inform us of civilisation, important figures and events across the timeline.

The sequenced modules activate prior learning, build on skills and deepen knowledge AND understanding. Learning, vocabulary and content is cumulative; content is learned, retrieved and built upon.
