Young Carers
At Wroughton Academies, we are dedicated to recognizing and supporting our young carers. We understand the unique challenges that young carers face and strive to create an environment where they feel valued, supported, and heard. Our provisions align with both statutory requirements and the expectations set forth by the Creative Education Trust (CET).
Dedicated Support
Our Pastoral Manager, Ms. Granger, leads our efforts in supporting young carers. She is available to provide guidance, listen to concerns, and offer practical support to ensure that young carers can balance their responsibilities at home with their educational needs. Ms. Granger works closely with students and their families to tailor support plans that address individual circumstances.
Pastoral Care
Beyond the dedicated support from Ms. Granger, all staff members at Wroughton Academies are involved in providing pastoral care. Our team is trained to recognise the signs that a pupil may be a young carer and to offer appropriate support. This includes:
- Regular Check-ins: Teachers and support staff regularly check in with young carers to monitor their well-being and academic progress.
- Flexible Arrangements: We offer flexible arrangements for homework and attendance to accommodate the responsibilities of young carers.
- Counselling Services: Access to counselling services is available for young carers who may need additional emotional support.
- Peer Support Groups: We facilitate peer support groups where young carers can share their experiences and support each other.
Partnership with Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Young Carers
We are proud to partner with the Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Young Carers Project (GYGYC), which offers a comprehensive support package for young carers aged 5 to 21 across the borough of Great Yarmouth. This partnership enhances our ability to provide specialized support and resources tailored to the needs of young carers, ensuring they receive the best possible care and assistance.
Statutory Compliance
Our policies and practices are designed to comply with statutory requirements, ensuring that young carers receive the support they need. We work in accordance with the guidelines set by the Secretary of State for Education and the Creative Education Trust to provide a safe and supportive learning environment.
How to Access Support
If you are a young carer or know a student who might be, please contact Ms. Granger or any member of our pastoral team. We are here to help and ensure that every young carer at Wroughton Academies has the opportunity to thrive both academically and personally.
